Our Story: Encounter. Engage. Empower.

Journey Church began in 2015, but its origins started in 2002, where a small church on the outskirts of Amarillo served the Greyhawk Community. The church had humble beginnings, and in early 2004 the first phase of the building was completed, followed by an addition which was completed in 2006.

On Easter Sunday 2015, Hollywood Road Community Church officially became Journey Church.

In late 2016, Journey began building a new addition just for kids. On Easter Sunday 2017, the new 7,500 square foot Journey Kids space opened. This modern and state-of-the-art facility is the perfect place for kids to hang out with their friends, but most importantly, to meet Jesus.

In 2018, Journey Students (7th-12th grades) was born and this ministry quickly became one of our most successful.

“Where we are is not as important as where we are going.”

Journey’s mission since day one has been “Encountering God, Engaging Together, Empowering Change.” This mission symbolizes the simple truth that we believe that we cannot change anyone, but that Jesus can. We believe people are formed, shaped and changed by an encounter with Jesus, and our ONLY JOB is to arrange the meeting.

We hope that you will join us on Sundays at 9AM or 10:30AM to begin YOUR journey.

What We Believe

We believe in the Trinity, represented in 3 Persons: Father, Son & Holy Spirit. We believe that God created all things, including people that He values and loves. At Journey, people are our priority and we know that God’s priority is people.

We believe that sin - both our nature and the choices we make - separates us from God and reveals our need for Jesus, our Savior. Jesus repairs the fractured relationship with God and reconnects us to our Father. It was because He lived as a man, without sin that He was able to become the perfect sacrifice for our sins. We believe in His death, burial and resurrection and because of this we are able to receive forgiveness from our sins.

We believe that God dwells in His people through the Holy Spirit, which also empowers and leads us to God's Mission. We believe the Spirit is living and active at Journey Church, and in its people.

Baptism and the Lord’s Supper were practices that Jesus participated in while he was on the earth. He was baptized as an act of doing what was right before God, and was commended by the Father. Water baptism, we believe, is for discerning believers who understand sin and the need for Jesus' sacrifice. Baptism is an act of obedience and submission and shows a person’s willingness to obey God and a humble spirit. Baptism symbolizes the person being joined with Christ, mimicking his death, burial and resurrection with water.

As a church we participate in the Lord’s Supper publicly about once a month, but it is offered every Sunday. This memorial also echoes the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, just as baptism does. Sharing in this we are reminded of the Lord’s sacrifice and share in this supper together with all believers. This meal also signifies our willingness to be broken and poured out for the world, in order to win them, and help them know Christ.

The Bible is our authority. We believe it is inspired by God, through people, and is a guide and teacher of how we should live as Christians. Both Old and New Testaments have value and exist in unison to show us God’s goodness, grace and love for His creation, as well as His unrelenting pursuit of us.

The church is God’s design and His gift to His children. The church is a family of believers, who share a common bond through their faith and actions. Sundays are a time to meet, encourage each other and be continually encouraged to be the people of God. We worship, give and serve with fellow believers through the local church. The Bible is clear that Christianity exists synonymously with church, and one cannot exist without the other. It is important to be a part of a church and grow and serve with fellow Christians.

Our mission at Journey is:
  • Encountering God
  • Engaging Together
  • Empowering Change

The Christian life is challenging. We are constantly derailed from living for God and it is hard to live as Christ did in the world. The transformed life (Romans 12:1-2) is our pursuit and in so doing our hope is to become better fathers, mothers, children, friends, business associates, and citizens. We aim to live for God in all we do and trust the Holy Spirit to guide and empower us so others might see and know Jesus.

Salvation is a free gift from God and one that can never be earned or deserved. We are broken and sinful people in need of a Savior. We believe it is only through Jesus, by the grace of God, that we are saved. Jesus became the sacrifice, so that our sins would not be held against us. We believe that we receive salvation through obedient acts of confession, prayer, and repentance. We also believe that our salvation is expressed through faithful Christian living.
